Then they face a choice:
Feign interest to fit in.
Or be authentic… even if it means being alone.
And they choose the latter.
The cost is high: fewer social circles, fewer invitations, more misunderstanding. The benefit is greater: inner coherence.
They prefer solitude to betraying themselves.
