Then she turned and walked away.
All the way back, my thoughts were racing. Ex-girlfriend. Childhood friend. The daughter of family friends.
Because none of those explanations fit all the pieces. Not the tattoo. Not the lies. And certainly not the fear I saw in her eyes.
When I got to our driveway, he was already agitated. Ryan was sitting on the porch. As soon as he saw me, he smiled.
I didn’t smile back.
Her expression changed immediately. “What happened?”
I walked straight towards him.
“I met her.”
